In 2019, more than 14 million Americans became victims of identity theft and that number continues to rise. That’s why each year we host a FREE document shredding event! There is no limit, bring all of your old documents, tax returns, bank statements, receipts, bills or any papers that contain your personal information to our south branch for free disposal.
The great thing is, we offer this free shredding service to the public, so you don't have to be a member of Afena Federal Credit Union to participate! We simply do this because we understand the importance of helping consumers keep their identity safe!
Due to social distancing restrictions, we will be handling Shred Day a bit differently this year than we have in previous years; here is what you need to know:
Afena staff will not be able to enter your personal vehicle to remove any boxes or bags of paper that need shredding. The very best case scenario would be that you place all containers of paper that you would like shredded in your trunk. As you pull up to the shred truck, you would simply pop your trunk and our staff will unload what you would like to have shredded. Of course, we realize that not everyone will be able to follow this ideal protocol.
If you are unable to put the items you would like shredded in your trunk, we will ask that you step our of your vehicle and remove the containers of paper that you would like shredded by placing them on the ground outside of your vehicle. Our staff will then assist you by carrying your containers of paper to the shred truck on your behalf.
The safety of our staff and our participants is our top priority at this event. We will ask that anyone who attends the event follows proper social distancing guidelines. All staff will remain at least six feet away from you and your vehicle while you remove your containers to place them on the ground. We will wait until you are safely back in your vehicle with the door shut before taking your containers to the shred truck.
Should you need additional assistance or require special circumstances, we will ask that you simply flip on your emergency blinkers while you wait in line. This will allow our staff to recognize that you have a special need or request and we will do our best to accommodate.
Keep your identity protected by bringing any confidential documents to be securely shredded by Iron Mountain.
