Enjoying our Time: Ignoring the To-Do List and Appreciating the Moment

Sep 14, 2014
Where has all the time gone? You hear it all the time…I’m a parent, I have school activities, I have work, I have to check Facebook, answer e-mails and make dinner. Time is a commodity that we’re all a little short on these days. Being a mom to three rambunctious little ones, I definitely can use all the time I can get. Take yesterday for instance…

Saturdays are usually like gifts from heaven for a mom who works Monday through Friday. But yesterday we had PLANS. We made the decision a few weeks ago to capture some memories with an outdoor photo shoot. It was long overdue, and I thought we should have some more professional photos of the kids before they hit college (6, 4, and 1…just in case you’re wondering). So Saturday morning finds us up early, getting the girls dolled up and little man adorable. Then it’s a mad dash to the park since kids don’t stay photo ready for long. Once the photo shoot was over, we played at the park for an hour, and then it was off to grandma’s house for a cook out, stopping along the way for some extra hamburger buns.

So I’m cruising along, checking items off my to do list, when I remembered that I had to pay the phone bill and make some transfers between savings and checking.  I felt like, where did the time go? How can I possibly stay on top of EVERYTHING? Thank goodness, Afena Federal Credit Union has online and mobile banking. I was able to make the payment, make the transfers, and finally relax and enjoy my family.

It was too easy to be in a rush and not appreciate the fun parts of the day. It was much too easy to hurry instead of enjoying family and friends. Isn’t it ironic that with all the conveniences of today’s world, we still feel so short on time? I made a decision yesterday that I am going to start being more respectful of my time. After all, if my credit union respects my time enough to let me handle my banking on my cell phone, surely I can find a moment to enjoy the park, my family, and a good cook out. I’m Claire, the Afena blog mom. Thanks for reading.
