Afena Employee Completes Leadership Grant County Class

(Marion, IN May 18, 2010) Afena Federal Credit Union Human Resource/Training Director Stacey McKee participated in the 2010 Leadership Grant County Program facilitated by Tim Harris. Continuing a commitment to local community involvement, Afena fully supported Stacey’s, an employee for 3 years, involvement in the program. Since completing the leadership class, Stacey now serves on the Board of Directors for the Grant County YMCA and the YMCA Marketing Committee.

The Leadership Grant County class benefits the local community in many different ways. First, the community gains a pool of educated individuals with commitment, leadership skills, resources, and the "know how" to serve, and can be a catalyst for positive change. Second, the employer (Afena) gains an employee with enhanced team building skills for organizational effectiveness, who is well connected in the county and can help establish the company as a good corporate citizen. Lastly, the participant gains a better understanding of county issues, creative ways of problem solving, improved leadership skills, and a large network of new friends and colleagues as resources.

“Personally, I gained the opportunity to learn a wealth of information about the history of Grant County and what it has to offer. Additionally, the Program built upon my leadership and networking skills that will prove to benefit my employer (Afena) as well as the community. The Leadership Program also allowed me the opportunity to visit the State House on the day of the State of The State Address with a tour guide allowing me to understand more of the political ventures of Indiana. I am confident that I am now better prepared to serve my community and give back as I understand the needs of Grant County.”

“The Leadership Program proved to be both beneficial and educational for me! I encourage everyone to enroll in this program.”

Grant County Rescue Mission's Walk-A-Mile for the homeless

14 people represented Afena Federal Credit Union in the annual Grant County Rescue Mission’s Walk-A-Mile for the homeless on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Employees also held a bake sale on Friday at the credit union to raise funds in support of the rescue mission. Afena’s Lorri Furnish stated “Grant County Rescue Mission has done a great job getting the word out about the Walk-A-Mile fundraiser. We felt it is a good cause and as a community partner, we were excited to participate.” Afena’s President, Sheila Burkhart, commented “Afena was proud to be a corporate sponsor for the Walk-A-Mile fundraiser and we always try to support our employees in community involvement.”
